Morning Patrols- Normanton and Rose Hill

Morning Patrols- Normanton and Rose Hill

PCSO Lawson and PCSO Supervisor Coleman have had quite a varied morning assisting in tackling prevalent issues in Normanton and Rose Hill today:
Patrols begin at 08:00- visits to known drug and alcohol use locations across the wards to disperse or take action against suspected users who frequent the area, including Mount Street, Swinburne Street, Burton Road and Lime Avenue. We had a chat with Derby City Council's Public Protection Officers who were similarly conducting early morning patrols across the ward.

Shortly after; a collection of personal attack alarms- we have a small number of these which we issue to victims of certain crimes. In this instance one of these will go to someone concerned that a stranger had been persistently asking for their personal phone number and generally acting suspicious.

9:00 onwards saw patrols of ASB hotspots; Normanton Park, Grove Street, Normanton Road and Arboretum Park. Fortunately there were no issues at the time, a few persons dispersed on sight of uniform. We popped into the café on Arboretum and chatted with some café users who were creating some Halloween biscuits and cakes. They smelt delicious!

We visited Walk in the Park Nursery to see and speak to the children there; we showed them bits of our uniform and brought the Police car to the front of their Nursery so they could have a sit inside, view some of the equipment we use at incidents and emergencies and a look at the blue lights! They were all fantastically behaved and engaging.

10:00 Saw us attend an incident at a shop on Normanton Road- a person was causing issues inside and refusing to leave. Upon attendance a conversation was had with both parties to establish if any crimes had been committed and relevant advice issued to both.

On the way back to the station we stopped on Normanton Road to render first aid and then disperse two males, believed to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. This isn't the first occasion this week we have had cause to speak to one of the males and so we will issue a Community Protection Notice Warning ( CPNW) to the male preventing him from attending the area. Any breaches of this will incur a £100 fine each time. A joint meeting with Community safety and other agencies will be held to discuss how best to prevent further issues.

We returned to the nick for a brief refreshment and then back out again to see what the afternoon brings!
